Western Washington University is commited to bringing students renewable energy and waste reduction to sustainability-mided courses and Western's Sustainability Committe. Their goal is to incorporate sustainability into many different fassets on campus academicly and professionally.
Goals and Commitments
Climate Neutrality by 2050
The WWU Board of Trustees adopted a campus-wide Climate Action Plan created by the Office of Sustainability with Facilities Management and the Western Sustainability Committee in 2010. The plan is an outline for Western to slowly have net zero carbon emissions by 2050. By doing this Western joins more than 660 institutions nationally in this goal through the American College and University President's Climate mommitment
Zero Waste Western
This a campus-wide campaign to reduce Western's landfill input to zero. Currently (2016) Western diverts around 72% of all waste from the landfill.
10% Utility Reduction by the end of 2012
This is a program called 10x12 in partnership with President Shepard and Facilities Management. It's goal is to attain 10% by the end of 2012.
20% Real Food by the end of 2020
The dinning halls are committed to achieving 20% Real Food by the end of 2012.
Real Food= food that is locally produced, organically-grown, fairly-traded, and humanely raised (at least one)
